Repeal Momentum is Building

Jennifer Dunn introduced a repeal Bill (H.R. 3879) that provides rate reductions of 5% a year for ten years, after which there is NO estate tax.

Kudos for Dunn. The goal is and should be total repeal. However, this is an excellent step and significant because it includes a Democratic co-sponsor who’s a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, John Tanner from Tennessee.

In a highly unusual show of support, both Speaker Gingrich and Congressman Chris Cox, who has sponsored a separate repeal bill (H.R. 902), have signed on as co-sponsors.

Repeal in the near future is a real possibility!!!

See www.deathtax.com for full text of the bill and see which delegates
have chosen to sponsor.

Inland Press & New England Press Associations

Through the leadership of Ginger Moorehouse at the Bakersfield Californian, estate
tax repeal was the highlight of the two Associations’ combined Family Held Newspaper Meeting in D.C. Frank Blethen gave the talk and spent the afternoon and evening working Capitol Hill on the issue. For more background, or a copy of Frank’s speech, call Frank or Suzanne Dorris.

Americans Feel The Death Tax is Unfair

National focus groups conducted for the senior organization, 60+, recently found that Americans overwhelmingly react to the unfairness of the death tax when they are told the top rate is 55%.

Even when asked about America’s most wealthy individuals, the focusgroups are adamant that 55% is unfair.

Americans Are Inclined to Vote for Candidates That Support Repeal

Other 60+ research indicates that a staggering 77% of all votes favor candidates who favor estate tax repeal.

Did You Know?

The death tax brings in less than 1.1 percent of total federal revenues. And, it is estimated it costs the government 65 cents of every dollar raised for enforcement and compliance.

The death tax is a jobs issue.

Repeal of the tax would result in 145,000 new jobs over the first 9 years of repeal.

And that doesn’t include the countless jobs that would be saved if the death tax didn’t force 70% of family and small businesses to liquidate or sell out after only one generation.
